Welcome to Hurst Green Shires. We were a hacking and driving centre but have chosen to retire our lovely Shires and giove them a break . We are based on the beautiful Surrey/Kent boarder. Run and owned by Jax and Chris, we are passionate about preserving and promoting the shire horse breed.
We are great believers of - if the Heavy Horse is to stay alive as a breed – it needs to have a job. It cannot stand in a field waiting to be shown so get out there, ride, drive and have lots of fun. The Heavy Horse is here to stay !!!!! We have clients that come for the first time or those that have been again and again that come, not because of us but, because they have fallen in love with the horses….. Isn’t that what it should be about ……
Hi , my name is Jax
I have been around horses all my life but there is something so special about a Heavy Horse. In fact, I would say I'm addicted to them and I can NEVER say no to helping anybody with their Heavy .. They are bright, intelligent, kind, honest and have an amazing work ethic... but above all, they return your love a hundredfold !! They are my love, my passion, my de-stress and my relief, I step onto my yard and all my troubles float away. There is nothing like stallion snuggles or foal kisses or mare tantrums or gelding attention, it really is the best cure in the world. It still amazes me that 19hh of Shire can reach the child in the pushchair or wheelchair for a pat but wouldn't dare move to harm the child.... our how they can talk to an autistic child without words …. it is MAGIC.
When I first started Hurst Green Shires I was the only one directing and guiding but as we have grown and developed it needed something extra, something different, that is now happening with the arrival of Cheryl who is going to be able to take us on into the future.

Hi my name is Emma - I have a long-standing love for horses from a young age, starting with riding lessons as a birthday present to competing county level on Welsh ponies, working for Mr Al-fayed to now owning my own ponies and working and supporting Hurst Green Shires with our beautiful boys and girls. I have a passion for working with special needs adults and children and with people that have a mental health issue, knowing all too well how horses and ponies alike can help us become calm and relaxed.
